The Blueville Story
Blueville Studio and Music Academy was founded by professional drummer Warren van Wyk, one of South Africa’s most active and accomplished drummers. Over the past 15 years, Warren has toured extensively and worked with numerous top-selling Platinum and Multi-Platinum artists, including Dewald Wasserfall, Bernice West, Demi Lee Moore, Ricus Nel, Jo Black, Just Jinjer, Roan Ash, Leah, Eden, Jay du Plessis, Lianie May, Ruhan du Toit, Jack Parow, Early B, Danny Smoke, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Zaan Sonnekus, and many others. He is currently the drummer for Appel and continues to focus on expanding Blueville Studio.
How Blueville Came to Be
Over a decade ago, Warren van Wyk started a drum academy and experienced tremendous success, teaching hundreds of students how to play the drums. From the beginning, he was passionate about providing the best drum lessons in the country and treated the drum studio as a professional business.
His first major opportunity came when he was invited to open a drum teaching studio inside a successful music store franchise. The lessons quickly gained popularity, and the business grew faster than Warren ever anticipated. He taught hundreds of students—ranging from beginners to advanced drummers—including well-known names such as Zan Kriegler (drummer for Jo Black and former drummer for Refenste), among many others.
In 2017, Warren launched SA Drummer, a highly successful online drum magazine. The magazine became a hit in South Africa and gained significant attention and recognition internationally.
The drum academy was originally established—and still operates—in Johannesburg. Although Warren enjoyed the success of the school, he always envisioned expanding it, which led to the opening of a second branch in Pretoria East. We decided to expand the academy even further, which led to the introduction of at-home drum lessons in Pretoria East.
In 2021, Warren purchased a beautiful recording studio in Pretoria with deep roots in the South African music industry. This marked the birth of Blueville Studio. Since then, Warren has recorded hundreds of drum tracks for artists and bands around the world—currently in 32 countries. Locally, the studio has worked with artists such as Jo Black, Bouwer Bosch, Jan Bloukaas, Rubber Duc, Deon Meiring, and many others.
The drum recordings quickly became a success, inspiring Warren to expand the studio’s offerings to include full-band and artist production services—an exciting development set to launch fully in 2025.
To unite his passion for drumming and music production under one name, Warren rebranded the drum academy as Blueville Academy.
